clear water

can any one help me with choosing a water product,for clear water.I have a UV light 35watt,still have tea color water.thanks

a u.v light is for green water (single cell algea). brown water is from most likely tannins, activated carbon will aid in controlling tea colored water. a 10% waterchange every couple days will help but you need to pull any dead vegetation from the ponds bottom and out of rocks, planters etc.. a fines filter may be quite beneficial too, it will rid the system of fine floating particulates.

Last spring I had made the mistake of using regular garden variety of potting mix to pot my water lilies. Right away the water took on a tea color that I had trouble getting rid of. I think it was DrDave, Koiguy, Koikeeper, and a few others that help me correct the problem. I didn't change the potting soil until last week, but I think doing several water changes over a four week period made all of the difference. In addition to installing a UV Clearifier, the pond water gradually became crystal clear. The fish seem to be healthy and happy, and so am I.

Later, I ended up adding a 27 gallon boi-filter behind the water fall that really made a difference in how often I had to rinse my skimmer/pre-filter.

does any one use any barley products for clear water?

I did when I was having the tea color problem. I was thinking that maybe that would help with getting rid of the tea color in my pond. The barley pad helped with the early spring algae growth. Barley won't get rid of any algae, but it will help minimize the problem.

barley products are made for algea..as the barley degrades it releases humic acids which slowly turn to hydrogen peroxide killing algeas off. barley extract is far superior to the bales because its first stages of bio breakdown are done and there is already humic acids present and the extract can start to work almost immediately..bales can take 2 months to truely start working.. a barley peat extract is a step up again. pellets are notorious for tanning the water brown.

A fines filter can be as simple as putting a laundry basket with pillow stuffing under your water fall to take out any thing floating in the water.
I have a basket in a barrel for viewing pleasure when needed
