I am attaching a picture of my albino comet. He shares a little 100 gallon preformed with his girlfriend, 3 of their babies and a frog. He is swimming and eating just fine. Water parameters all look good. No new fish, other than their 3 month old babies. No new plants. A little water change as usual on Saturday, with the usual chemicals for chlorine. I checked real close and cannot see any kind of parasites. The scales in the red area are fluffed up a little. I did a peroxide treatment on him before putting him back in. the opposite picture is a little red area where 3 scales appear to be missing. I am open to suggestions. He is about 7-8" long and pleasantly plump. They have been in this pond since April by themselves.

I found today that one of my goldfish had developed red spots. I netted this fish and transferred him (or her) to a 5g quarantine tank, where I easily diagnosed anchor worm infestation.

Now, due to my lack of experience with ponds, I do not have a first aid kit that has anything that can help. Not only that, but I have looked all over town for Dimilin. I have placed the infected goldfish in a salt bath, but at 8:00 PM Friday, I'm needing to find some ASAP.

I have also been eyeing my other fish today. I cannot find any evidence of infestation, but I am pretty sure that I need to reat the entire 3000g pond.

Any ideas on this subject? I could probably take the pond down to 1000g and still maintain filtration and aeration, but would I have a chance of eggs remaining in my plant pots and marginal shelving? I could even remove the fish, treat them, shock the remaining water, then dilute with fresh water before returning the fish.

Anyone experienced with the treatment of this asinine parasite I thank in advance for your response.

Now I've lost a few Koi in the past due to this and I'm thinking it's dropsy. Well basically the signs are that the Koi is bloated, so its swim bladder has too much air, and that the Koi is lethargic. Usually the night before the Koi is healthy looking and is eating well, but the next they look just as I've described. This has happened to me about three times this year can anyone help out? I'm thinking maybe it may be a bacterial or viral infection because some local house sparrows use my pond as a local watering hole. Thanks.

May 25th new pond filled 2 days before 166 inches of fish added to 1200 gallons lined pond. Fish were displaced from their home I gave away 32 inches of fish. Two weeks later I added small 300 gallon pond 18" deep. I filled it with Plants. Water Lettuce, water Lilly, water hyacinth, and parrot feather.
I have the large Sevio skimmer for ponds up to 5000 gallon. When I moved the fish I moved the skimmer keeping the filter media wet so the bacteria could relocated with the fish. The skimmer divides the water to send through a 30 gallon tube with filter media and lava rock then passing through the small bare root plant pond. Then flowing down 20inch falls into the main 1200 gallon pond. There is another water fall that has a 30 gallon tub filled with lava rock. I also have a turbo twist 36 inch UV.
I have added different good bacteria products Revititalize andmicrobe-lift gel inoculant once a week. I did not do water changes until this week
I have tested my water regularly over the last 5 week period. My 5 in one test strip has read consistently Nitrate 0 ; Nitrite 0 ; GH 75; alkalinity 120; PH 8.2. temperature ran 78 to 82 degrees.
Fish have been eating and active. Four days ago I noticed one 22 inch white butterfly guys tail and fins blood veins became very visible with in 2 days the end of fins and tails became ragged and bloody. NO FUNGUS Next day the other white butterfly showing same symptoms. I treated both with salt baths. I put them in large wadding pool and added Melafix..
Next day a 3rd fish is showing same symptoms, I gave a salt bath and returned to pond. I returned one of the white koi back to the pond. For the last 2 days I have have done 1/3 water changes. I hooked up a 2900 gph pump pulling water from the bottom shooting it up like a giazier . Hoping to cool water and add more oxygen.
I have added salt to the pond only about 5 ponds for 1500 gallons. Since my plants are valuabe to my ponds design, I do not want to add any more salt to the pond. My tests strip do not read ammonia. I also looked for an ammonia test today. I could not find one available in my area.

Hi, One of my koi is starting to show a blackish-grey growth along its back fin and top of its head and I think it is some kind of fungus. How much salt would I add to a 2500 gallon pool for treatment?

After reading all the horror stories about parasites, etc., I am now paranois and wonder if all the fish are 'flashing' because they itch or if it is only playful behavior.

I don't have the ability to set up a hospital tank and need to treat the entire pond if anyone here thinks it is warranted. I have found a product http://www.ponddoc.com/Store/FishHea...arasitePak.htm has anyone experience with this stuff? I need to jump on this asap guys. thanks, Scott

I have a goldfish with what looks like two scabs on its side. I wish i could take a pic for you but he is not very big and very very FAST, as a matter of fact i have been trying to net him today to get some macurichrome (i am sure i butchered the spelling of that!) on it.
I noticed the base of his top and bottom fins are now turning BLACK. Could this some type of fungus or internal bleeding?

I am going to get him quarantined but I have to go buy a small tank as I am in a new house and threw all of my stuff like that out when i moved thinking i'd not get anymore fish (what was i thinking!)

Just wondering if based on description anyone can give any advice. I am sure w/out pics its harder but no way can i get him still enough to photograph and he's so small my camera wont show enough detail for anyone.

Hi, my friend has a gold and white fintail and has had him for about a month and a half. Last week he noticed the fish was acting goofy. He was moving slow and would swim a little then just sink. A couple days later he was cool again.

Well today he calls me up and says that the fish is almost all black. I'm looking at him now and his head and body look like they are covered in a black residue. He is in a little bowl right now so we can get a good look at him. He also has a koi, and 3 conkers that all look fine. He's been doing bi weekly water changes and using microbe lift pl.

The pond is around 80 gallons and he has a Laguna pump. He don't remember how many gph but it was over 300. We built a Bio filter out of a 5 gallon bucket. We don't have any test strips but we will post a pic of the fish once we find a good container and results of the strips.

Thanks for the help!

I have seven golfish. They are all doing well except for one orange fantail. It just floats at the top of the water, it will swim down occasionally, but floats back up within a few seconds. It seems to be weak. It looks like it may be a little bloated, but it's hard to tell. The others are all fine! I have put it in a small tank for now, but I'm not sure what to do. It's not floating on it's side or upside down, so I'm not sure if it's a swim bladder infection or not. I got it about a week ago along with another orange fantail from the same tank. The other one looked a little puny yesterday, but is doing great after a 50% water change. This one seems worse! Please give me some advice! I really like this fish and don't want it to die!

Hello. Two of my koi have obvious fungus. My pond maintenance guy suggested using pimafix and melafix in my 1000 gallon pond. (I have 6 koi and one goldfish). I am on the fifth day and the fungus looks worse to me, not better. Can anyone suggest a more aggressive treatment and can I start it right away or do I have to wait out the 7 day course I'm on? I have had this particular pond for 4 years with no problems until now.
Thanks

It started looking like this a few days ago. The scales are raised up too. I feed them small goldfish pellets. The pellets are dry but I crush them up so they soak up water faster.

You can see it at 2:00 into the video pretty good. :surfing:
