I Moved this thread, since it was not directly related to actual spawing.
DrDave

Has anyone here ever raised shubs? If so when do they spawn? I have a few in a 125 gallon tank (for the winter) and it looks like they are either picking on one fish or some kind of mating ritual......don't know. Seems to early for them to spawn, but I don't know how being indoors would effect there timing either......is it possible?

That is partially correct. The act of spawning causes the odor.
At DrDaves Koi, last years spawn occurred here on April 26th and the actual spawn lasted 8 hours.

My breeder Koi have always been kept outdoors. The spawn varies from year to year by about 6 weeks. I don't know how many people who would be successful in keeping full grown Koi indoors. We are talking about Koi that are 16" or more in size. It would take a very large indoor vessel for that to work. If they only had a male/female pair, that might work out.
