grow in Lake Ontario?

This year our boat is docked at the marina on Toronto Island. We're at
the end of the dock and next to our boat is a big empty space that's not in the way of anyone. Just wondering if I can grow a hardy waterlily in there. The problems I see are water temperature, and oxygen level of Lake Ontario. Another option might be the yellow American lotus, Nelumbo lutea, since it has naturalized in Canada. |

I would find out the laws about planting in a public waterway.
