This picture has been making the rounds of local
hikers in our area, my DH being one of them.
It was taken recently at a very popular hiking
trail minutes from where we live.

(warning - if you are at all snake-o-phobic...)

I thought sights like that were limited to Texas. Glad to say
that I've never experienced such a event!

Wow!

Last year, in spring, we were cleaning up on the yard. My wife was weeding
an area about 6'x 4'. I was a little ways away in my pond. After about ten
minutes, I hear this, "oh crap." I looked, and my wife was now standing on
the path next to where she had been weeding. I went over to look. After a
while I made out a rattlesnake neatly coiled up and camouflaged in the
middle of the area she was working in. How she never stepped on it was
miracle.

Update on the snake story.
We have our very own urban legend going on.
Apparently the newspaper started trying to track down
who took the picture of the snakes and did a *forensic*
email tracking to find out the pictures were not local
and came from Wyoming!
otoh, we do have rattlesnakes and DH and the dogs
have come across them while hiking. Just that our
snakes are not ready for their close ups.
Here is the story if you are interested.
The last line is cute.

Another day, another story....
Just so we don't get too complacent about the fact
that the snakes were in Wyoming and not here, the
paper issues a warning that there *are* SNAKES IN
THE PARK!
>>residents and visitors are being warned to keep an eye out for rattlesnake

s in the city’s riverside parks.

Snakes are slithering onto grassy areas and paths because of the
higher than usual water in the Columbia River, said Candace Andrews,
Richland’s public information manager.

A rattlesnake was found on the patio at the community center and
several were seen in the center’s garden, she said.
