OT: Science Diet - cats

Over the years we've talked about pet foods. I remember one in particular
about Science Diet but can't recall what was said. Anyway, I've adopted an
older cat and my vet recommends this Diet in the Sr. version. Someone told
me it could be purchased at Walmart? ~ jan

congratulations !!! have u asked the local cat rescue group - they generally
have all sorts of money saving tips - i tend to have a negative knee jerk
reaction against walmart - donna

I'm a bit of a cat person, there are nine living with me now, and I've had
many cats throughout my life. Science Diet is overpriced crap, IMHO. You're
better off using just about any other "premium" pet food from a pet
supermarket or a grocery store if you can find one that carries better
quality cat foods. Some feed stores may have something suitable as well.

Unless Wal-Mart in your part of the country is very different from
Wal-Mart here (TX), they don't carry Science Diet. You can buy it at
any of the chain petstores, like Petsmart, PetCo, Pets Warehouse.

I have bought prescription Hills KD from my vet (rather expensive) but
it does seem to work as advertised. One elderly cat's kidney values
actually improved, and she's the only cat I've had that died of old
age that did not involve the kidneys (she had heart disease).

Years ago I did research on diets for elderly cats and the thing seems
to be cutting down on phosphorus and protein. Some cat foods do
better at that then others. If you're interested, I'll see if I can
locate links and email them to you.

My dog has recently gone onto Hills Prescription DD. It costs an arm and
a leg and can only be bought at a vets as far as I'm aware. He's been on
it for a couple of weeks now and it certainly seems to have sorted out
his more distressing digestion problems. Only concerning thing is that
the cat has taken a liking to it and is now turning his nose up at his
"cheaper" expensive canned food...(he steals it from the dog's bowl
right under the dog's nose)

it.

i thought i was the only one who had a cat that pushed their dog around -
when i say 'their' - im refering to the cat not me - the cat thinks this dog
is his.

My cats get premium kibble like Wellness, California Natural, and
others with good ingredients the first 3-4 listed. Naturally they eat
the Science Diet (which I dare not remove entirely) with gusto and
pick at the others.
