So I'm watering the plants, and I see these two guys.
http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...l062008015.jpg It has not been uncommon for me to find one frog sitting in the spout of one of the self-watering pots I have around the house. In fact, the frogs seem to have become rather used to me, and not as afraid of me as they have been. They would often jump out of the pot when I came near with a watering can, then they waited to jump out until the pot got full, now they don't even bother to jump out at all. (Well, if I pour water on them directly they'll jump, but you really have to fuss with them these days.) But this is the first time I have seen two in the same spout. I took this after filling the pot with water. The fill up didn't seem to bother them at all, although the flash from the camera made the green one go away and hide for a moment, but then he came back out. To bring this sort of back around to ponds, it wouldn't surprise me at all to find out that these guys spent at least part of their lives (perhaps as tadpoles) in the pond. Galen Hekhuis |

I often see them on the rim of my swimming pool. They lay eggs in it and I move them to a smaller pool (until I get a pond made). I don't think they'd leave eggs in my pool if I used chlorine habitually, and I don't, I use a Floatron ionizer instead, and an occasional overnight shock treatment (and I'm always afraid frogs will suffer when I do those). |

Cool pic. Are they variants of a theme or different species?

I used to feel sorry for the one that was living inside because I didn't think there would be enough to eat. I guess there is though, because it's been here for months the frog is still fat and happy and sitting in my inside pot. Either that or it has found a way to go outside at night (I always open the windows and turn off the A/C at night) and feed and then return to the house in the morning. Galen Hekhuis |

The pot is inside the house? Do you think mosquitoes might be attracted to the water and that's what they're living on? ~ jan (on hold with the driver's license place now for 19 minutes.) ------------ Zone 7a, SE Washington State Ponds: www.jjspond.us |

It's mostly bug-free out there but I imagine there are enough to keep the frogs in business. I've got about 10 pots hanging out there and usually there is a frog in about half of the pots whenever I water, but like I say, this is the first time I've seen two in a pot. I've got about 20 of those kinds of pots inside, but only one frog that I've seen. The frog has been there for months, I started seeing it in late February and it is still around. I use crushed up mosquito dunks in the pots, but I've never had any mosquitoes in them. Doesn't seem to bother the frogs at all. Galen Hekhuis |
