how deep should pond be
last year was my first year keeping fish in my garden pond, which i dug in my back garden , this year i intend making pond deeper , how deep should pond be for goldfish , last year was extremely hot and my pump kept cutting out when sun was at it hottest , i did lose a few fish through ulcers , hopefully with the pond been deeper water will stay cooler for fish , any help would be appericated

Vivaro,
Your pond should be at least 5 or 6'' deep or even deeper so your fish can stay way from the surfice during hot days -- as they prefer a cooler temperature -- and also for oxygen purposes. You also need to think about eventual raccoon visits; if the pond is deep it will be more dificult for them to attack your fishes.

Our pond is one that goes from 5" to 15" in the middle. It's worked pretty well.

My deepest pond in 40 years is my current one. It is 18" deep. Livining in So Cal helps.

mine is 3 ft deep. Had to dig it out of clay, all kinds of fun there!!
