Hope the group works out for you all. I'll be in the lurk mode
since my pond is spring fed requiring little to no human intervention.

Well, do post any time you think you can help someone. Or just add
interesting comments.

Actually I find the whole concept of spring fed ponds/lakes very
interesting.....my Step Mother's son runs a whole trout farm using this
technique......so any details would be great....

The pond is approximately 3/4 acre fed by a high volume spring. Depth in
the middle is around 13 feet. There is a concrete faced overflow at the
outlet and about 75 feet of underground galvanized 14" culvert ending in a
small stream meandering through the property. Some aquatic wildlife mostly
hardy species of panfish, some wild amphibians and crustaceans. Reeds and
cattails on the edges in spots. A bit of algae in the hot months but not
much do to the output of the spring. Nice place to swim in the summer
provided you wear some foot protection due to the rocky bottom. I own this
property approximately 40 acres surrounded by hilly terrain and farmlands.
It's my getaway from the hectic life I lead in civilization and sports a
single room log cabin with a loft.

I assume you plan to retire there. Will you add some kind of sport fish at
that time?

There are some Bass and Crappie already. And yes I do plan on spending my
retirement years there. It's a half hour's drive on dirt roads to get
there. In the winter you need a 4x4 to get up to the cabin. No traffic
noise, no airports around. Nice and peaceful

Have you actually diverted the stream or do you just take water from it
to feed the pond?....The 5 acre lake belonging to my Step Mother's son
originally was fed by diverting the stream, when he bought the property
he found that this was not as efficient as just taking a controlled feed
from the stream into his grow out ponds and then returning it to the
stream at the other end of the lake - he has some method of using
tubing/pipes to control the amount of water taken from the stream and
also to return it....not sure of the exact mechanics but will be going
up there after Easter so can ask....

What you have sounds idyllic :-)

The spring is actually at one end of the pond. The other end was built up
to add some depth and a concrete overflow added by the previous owner
around 20 some years ago. At its highest output I measured the flow at
around 15 gallons per minute but usually is around 5+.
