So how does the moderation work?

Do our posts get approved before they appear, or are troublemakers just
filtered out somehow?
Just wondering.

And to answer your question, yes, there is software moderation, and real
live mods, so posts take a while to appear.

You can always post pics to binary group such as alt.binaries.test and
then post the Msg id here to link to them.
An example would be;
Message-ID: <>
(My 'stang)
....or. of course. you can put them up on one of the many free websites
and post a link to them here too.

True,. but it's much easier to just post with an attachment.. it's not like
this group will have such a huge binary load like say, alt.binaries.dvd or
something like that, with gigs of daily posts

Interesting. I get all my groups through a paid news service (GigaNews)
and view everything like I have for a zillion years with all the other
newsgroups. Never have seen anyone also do their own hosted group that
posts (I'm assuming) simultaneously on Usenet.
Great newsgroup. Love my pond and you seem to have knowledgeable folks
up here.

Hi Gareee,
The main reason we cannot post binaries here is because
rec.ponds.moderated is in a non-binary Big-8 hierarchy. Many/most of
the major news service providers will not allow binaries in a
non-binary hierarchy.
Some will, but most do not. Most nsp's require a binary to be in
the alt.binaries.* hierarchy.
Our webpage has very limited disk space available. Perhaps in
the future that could change, allowing pics to be posted there, but
right now it is not possible.
I think that the suggestion by another poster, which is to find a
suitable alt.binaries newsgroup, and then to post the message ID here,
is an excellent alternative.
Many ponders have their own websites, and post pictures on them.
Of course , there is also a problem with using a binaries
newsgroup, such as alt.binaries.test. Many of your smaller nsp's do
not carry binaries at all because of the large volume of disk space
they take up. Others carry binaries for a very, very limited time,
often just a couple days.
Ultimately the best solution would be a rec.ponds moderated
website that had enough disk space to hold several hundred mb of
pictures. That is _not_ possible at this time. But it _is_ a
goal that I have thought about for "down the road", perhaps in a year
or two.

I have, in the past, posted *.jpg's to alt.binaries.aquaria with no
problem.
