I added a new 10" comet to my pond (1500 gal) and my two Sarassa Comets (8") immediately started harassing it. This morning I found the new one had tucked itself under the pump in a defensive move.

The 5" Shubunkins are oblivious to the battle (as they always are).

Will they become friends?

Could it be the new one has a disease that the others immediately identified?

If the new fish you added is a female and the existing fish in your pond are male, the males could be trying to fertilize the females eggs. My females have actually gone into the skimmer to escape the males.

An update:
It developed a rather nasty fungal infection. The sides have turned fuzzy and white.

It's isolated in a separate tank and is being medicated.

It died. :(

The vendor said a good thing to do would be to add multiple fish instead of a solo one to keep the "bad boys" from teaming up on one newbie.

It was a sales pitch that worked - for somewhere else.

I added three sarassas and one koi this weekend.

Everyone is happy and friendly.
