Okay since Im new to the pond scene this will be my first winter. Im sure pond equipment like everything else has the latest and greatest equipment. Im looking for recommendations for a pond heater and aerator for an approximately 4500-5000 gallon pond. Any brands, links, insight or tips will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Thank you sissy. I did some research last nite on the internet and came across this aerator called a KoiAir 1. Have you ever heard of it? It specifically states you don't need a heater with it. Something I didn't know but Ive read pond heaters can cost up to $35 a month to run. The KoiAir 1 is definitely pricey but may be cheaper in the long run. If you have any knowledge on this aerator let me know please or if you don't think my idea of running an aerator without a heater isn't a good idea despite what the company says

Pond heaters come with a built in thermostat that only turns them on when the water gets cold enough but they still can cost a lot no matter what .All aerators need protected from the weather .I will use a pump near the surface of the water again this year and only plug my heater in when needed .Here that is usually not until January .I shut down my filters in Feb. .I had an air max aerator and sold it to my neighbor it said it went to a depth of 6 ft but only went to a depth of 3 ft .Not bad for a small pond but not good for a bigger pond .I did not have the koi air 1 but had the other 1 with the 4 outlets on it .It does work great on my neighbors pond though .The laguna goes to 9 ft deep .But you will need to check out that cfm as it does not look like much ,only says .8 cfm .I think they may have a video of it on you tube working .Not sure if it is the same 1 you are looking at .The air max 1 I had said .31 cfm

Yea definitely a scary thought but it also worries me to put my faith in a product Ive never used. It kind of makes me want to use that and maybe use another product with it therefore the odds of one of them making it is greater

Jersey_Marine, I thought the same way, so I had a 1500W heater as backup just in case.
I never had to use it. I have full confidence in those breathers.
I used 2 in case one failed. It would be impossible to add a second one once the pond freezes over.

It's very important to have your pond clean going into the winter though. You don't want a lot of decaying matter using up the oxygen.
Make sure you don't have your pond overstocked either. That's a relative term, I hope you know what I mean.
