Hi All

I am about to embark on a raised pond which will be a metre deep and hold 20'000ltrs. I am new to koi but have kept African Cichlids for many years in the past and am used to large filters etc. very excited about this project but want to get it right so will probably be asking lots of questions.

Thanks Andy

I always feel a bit like the Lorax - "I speak for the trees!" But in this case it's the koi. Our koi co-exist peacefully with our heavily planted pond. The only thing they eat is the watercress that trails into the water, and it's there for them so that's not a problem. I know lots of people have issues with their koi rooting and tearing plants out of pots - ours leave everything pretty much alone. They poke around a lot, but they've never actually caused any damage. Most of our plants are naturalized, so we don't really have pots for them to dig in other than the lilies. And my lilies are so overgrown there's not much to dig IN! Now the frogs love to dig up my sedges, but that's another story!

Hello and welcome! We love to see pictures, and I know you haven't started yours yet, but post pictures so we can see what the site looks like. Then, as you progress and after it's completed, it's always fun to go back and compare the before, during, and after pics.

Hi Guys and thanks for the warm welcome. I will post pics as I start and finish the pond. Looking at the lighting minefield currently. Filter and pumps and paint sorted!
