Hi Everyone,
It has been awhile since I was on last to ask for help on building a biofilter. Well I got it done and the pond has been up and running now for a week and a half with fish being slowly put over the course of a week, introducing them a few at a time so the filter could keep up. Here are the pics.




These first few pictures are of the initial pond sight and the dig.

These last few pictures are of the almost finished pond. I do have some more landscaping to do on one side yet.



and a couple of pictures of the DIY biofilter that you all gave me advise on.

And just a few more pictures of the fish and plants. I introduced the fish a few at a time slowly over the course of a week so as not to overload the biofilter. So far no algae bloom it is just growing on the sides. All the water tests are in the safe parameters and I have been testing the ammonia levels dailey just in case.





They are doing great and I am enjoying them immensley!

Great job on the bio filter. What did you use for the grate? Where did you get it? This is a perfect item for keeping the sponges seperated.

we ponders never stop, finding new things. what is it lolly???? it fits great

It is actually the plastic grill from an old box fan we had that didn't work anymore. I have one in the bottom too to lift the filter material away from the floor so the water will circulate around the bottom before it rises through the material. I just measured the inside diameter of the barrel and used a utility knife to cut it out. On both of the grills there was a circle on the outside that was almost the same size as the barrel so it was easy to cut out and then my DH used a whole drill bit for the hole in the middle for the pipe to go through. I'm gald you liked it!

What a great idea. If I ever have a fan fail, I'll have a new use for the grill.
