water hyacinth eaten by koi

I regularly feed my koi, however they still seem to consistently nibble or feed on the water hyacinth. Am I not feeding them enough or is this koi instinct at work? :)

its their nature and they love the fine little black roots of the hiacynths. get some hoola hoops, pvc or irrigation tubing and netting...make some floating planters to protect the roots if you dont want em nibblin... i made one for this year, four foot round
theres definately something fishy about this forum!
