Hello,
My name is Jim and am a new pond owner up here on Whidbey Island, WA.
Have had a small 300 gallon pond for about 4 months now and just added 3 comets yesterday afternoon. Have a skimmer which pumps the water back to a bio waterfall. I had my landscaper install the pond. I added some plants a few weeks ago and the owner said to add some plant food...well we followed her instructions and I had a plethora of string algae appear a few days later. Well I drained the pond and cleaned it up and the algae is growing back but not as bad. My ph is ~8.2 (well water) and my kh is around 200. My ammonia is pretty non-existent right now but I am sure adding the 3 comets will change it, need to get that cycle going, eh!
Looks like a great place to hang out and get lots of information!
Kind regards,
Jim

Welcome to the Forum. I never add anything (chemicals) to my ponds. All my plants are doing fine with what the fish provide. I might also add, the fish are healthy as well.
