I have about 30 koi in my ponds and they never eat the floating plants. Are you feeding them enough? Mine do eat string algae off the sides.

I have a system that seems to work for me. My lower pond has 8 adult Koi, I give them 4 handfulls of pellets at 5:00 every day. I have small hands so this equates to about 50 grams or a little over 3 oz of food. On weekends, I will feed them twice, but not as much early in the day.
