well today i tried to get a newly planted up basket into the bottom of my pond ... was lowering it in only to drop it and yes it turned upside down ...gravel and worse soil everwhere ... i now have a very brown pond !!! i managed to net a lot of it ... but im wondering how you all get your baskets in the bottom without ending up with the mess i had..

I have my wife hold my feet and I go head first into the pond to lower the pots. Bet it's pretty funny to watch. Make sure you have somebody you can trust holding your feet....lol

We actually use those "grabber" things. You know, the grabbers for short or old people.. They look like a robot arm. I have two, and I hold one side and my husband holds the other and we lower it in together.. You have to get a GOOD quality one because it needs to really grip.. the kiddie play ones dont hold well.
Cause life... well, it's life.. and there's nothing else like it

now thats a good idea lindsayanng... as i didnt really like the idea of padling in the pond ...just incase there may be a frog in there !!!
only thing is do you think it would hold with just one ? as theres only me to do the work :boldblue:

This is a good subject. Short of yelling Sempi Fi and jumping in feet first, I have been wondering how others place their potted plants in a pond.

I almost took a dive head first the other day trying to pluck a old lilly pad near the base.

Keep the creative ideas coming.

after your in a few times your fish will come and greet you... i can hold mine (underwater of course)and pet them while in the pond. and its funny when they try to eat the hair on your legs.(not you ladies) i go in to vaccuum, prune dead foliage, rearrange, etc.. and AS OF YET.. not one single frog attack.
theres definately something fishy about this forum!

LOL ... well i wish mine would let me pet them ... i only have to put my hand in and they run for cover !!!... and yes i know silly having a pond if your terrified of frogs !!
anyway problem solved ... i thread string in the holes each side of basket held all ends and lowered into pond then pulled string back out

Stroppy, I think that's a great idea. So simple to do. Next time I have to lower a potted pond plant into my pond, I will use your idea. Thanks for sharing.
