i had 2 lillies in the pond that i bought new this spring .. one only has a couple of very small leaves the other died ! ... so i went out and bought another one about a month ago, this one still only has about 4 very small leaves it was meant to be a large one ... i just cant seem to get lilies to grow, my other pond plants are now doing well after a very shaky start .
i just cant understand why they wont grow .. has anyone any ideas why ?

Full sun? I know they take alot. When i first put mine in, I had them on the more shaddy side of the pond. It got full sun but maybe for only 4 hours. One of my friends had bought the same lilly as I on the same day. After seeing my friends with some starts and I had nothing, I moved mine to the full sun side that gets at least 8 hours, maybe more. His started out better than mine but mine has even more full sun and now I have 15 pads to his 4 or 5.

No magic to it. I dropped 2 lillies in my new pond this year 30" down. 5 hours of sun added fertilzer tablets every 4 weeks (if you don't do this, you wont' get much growth). Have 10 or pads and 3 blooms already with more on the way. cut off dead pads and flowers.
That's it.
That's it.
530 Gallon pond plus 60 gallon Bog and waterfall
220 Gallon African Cichlid tank
3000 Gallon pond in progress
75 Gallon fry tank (possibly winter home for gold fish)

they are in aqatic soil .... in full son all day only had the new one for 4 weeks so didnt think i should need to feed it just yet but i could give feeding it a try ... i have never had a problem with lilies untill this year .. and ive kept the ryzome sticking out above the soil

take them out of the soil, take your hose and wash out as much clay and soil out of the roots and repot them in pea gravel..the roots are exposed directly to the ponds water and feed freely... this has an added benefit of filtering your water further, and no more fertilizing. look at my pond pics ive already seen dozens of flowers, have 5 open now and atleast 10 above water that will be opening in days.
theres definately something fishy about this forum!
