looks good. I'd go with a brick or stone that matches the brick on your house

If I'd have known you needed it, I'd have sent it your way last week when we got 4 inches over night. Could have easily been you, your not that far away!

i dig it. Did you just cement those cinders on the patio directly without any support? I want to do the same thing by my pool deck, but didn't want to bother with rods or anything in the center of the cinders. I figured if it was a low wall like yours it wouldn't need it. What did you do?

i mortared it normally then cut some 2x4s to about 14' and dropped them in the cavities and filled with a cement mix with gravel aggregate.

so, no rebar or anything. just mortared in those 2x4's. What exactly is the purpose of the 2x4 if it's not anchored down? I'm seeking to learn....

This has me curious as well. Normally 2X4 forms are removed after establishing a foundation or perimeter of a slab. They are never left in a concrete pour.

i know this is not the norm, but this is a seating wall, on a 30 year old patio. drilling and epoxying rebar into the old pour would have been the norm but this wall isnt structural and i had the 2x4s they basically just partially filled the cavities to lessen the concrete amount. i'm no mason but this should serve its purpose fine.
