What size pump would I need for a 55 gallon skippy filter for a 1,500 gal pond? I've put a piece of window screen across the return water and it is catching enough gunk that it has to be emptied and cleaned every 24 hours. If that much gunk is getting past the bio filter, how often would a skippy filter have to be back flushed?

I use a Beckett W1150. it is a bit over 1100GPH. My ponds are about the same size as yours and I use a 55 gallon Doc Filter.

i use a terapond 1200gph and my pond is 1200gals my skippy is a 70gal stocktank..i flush every 2 to 3 weeks, unless my neighbor asks for some "ferilizer water" for his veggy garden.

Hey fish... I'm kinda of new to the whole pond building... and just recently in the last few weeks been researching on this hobby. I've just started my digging a few days ago.... anyhow back to your topic, just wondering if you installed a pre-filter before your bio-filter setup?

Pondering: No I have not installed a pre-filter before the bio-filter because the water to the bio is going at 3,500 gph. The way I understand it that is a lot of water for a filter to handle so I am considering a skippy filter with a pump at 1,200 to 1.500 gph. Maybe an experienced ponder can provide more information.

i use a 1000 gph pump on my 55 gal drum, and a 1200 gph on my 70 gal stock tank. just moved fish to basement today and its the first day running the 55er
