Stop me before I buy again!

Well, I just returned from a trip to Lotus Land Koi Farm where they are having their fall koi harvest this weekend in Marshville, NC. I had zero intentions of buying any fish and really just wanted to see the operation and their mud ponds and chat with Brady, who owns the place. I figured at worst I'd buy a kohaku.

Well, jeez, I walked away with 4 new fish! Cripes!

The fish were all primarily tosai that averaged about 5 inches, so they were born this year around May. They are babies, and looked miniscule when they went into my pond in comparison to the others.

I ended up buying a tancho kohaku, a hi utsuri, a showa that has a lot of deep color under the skin so I'm curious as to how he'll turn out (he's kind of dull at the moment, but brady thought he had lots of potential based on what he's seeing under the skin); and then an utsurimono, with the markings going sideways across its back, it travels from head to tail in a vertical across the black fin.

Here they are:

Plus, I was talking to the hubby on the car ride back about my idea for an above ground pond, and he said yes! I knew I was golden when he said, "you can put flagstone or something like that in the front..." LOL! It's a good thing he agreed because now I'm really overstocked! Thank goodness I added that 55 gal drum this spring!

Oh dear! Time to start researching a pond build!

Hmmm... Is there a 12 step program available for koi owners? LOL
Nice fish.
The warmth of the sun for pardon
The song of the birds for mirth
One's closest to God's heart in a garden
Than anyplace else on earth!

there should be, I really had no room for these 4. I figured I could squeeze in one more. It is zany how we keep collecting these magnificent creatures.
