It's official: spring is coming. I've been feeding my fish lightly a couple times a week for a few weeks now. Over the last week, green water has developed. So, yesterday I had to plug the pump and filter back in.

Water is sitting between 50 and 55 and should continue to slowly warm up. Can't wait until it hits 60 and I can get some floating plants going for cover to knock out the green water.

I'm very pleased to be able to say all my fish survived the winter, including my little mystery fry (who's gotten a bit bigger and appears to be a fancy/comet hybrid). Everyone looks healthy, although one of my moors has a bit of fungus on his dorsal fin. I figure I'll treat it topically with malachite green once the water has warmed up a bit further (don't want to handle him and stress him while the temps are still so low).

I can't wait until things have fully warmed up. Hoping to get the upper pond, bog, and fall done, and a few finishing touches on the main pond

water is just on 50 here but thats with a cover over pond ... admit i too have fed fish a few times mainly cause i was losing some of last years fry, they just wernt big enough to survive the cold i think, but all seem to be doing ok now pump and filters are back up and running, but i think still away to go before spring sadly !!

Calling for 24"- 36" of snow here. Pulled the thermometer to keep it from freezing. The ice started to melt today but with the forecast don't see the use in putting it back in. I was hoping to get started on the new pond build but I guess that is a month or more off as we are to have another storm Tuesday.

I dont know why but its winter here
Maybe it will turn for the good in a few weeks

65 degrees F here and expecting more rain tomorrow.

I don't know how far away you are from me but I think not that far and we could still get hit with some very cold weather. I hope not but ya never know about here in the Pacific N.W. Today was sunny and warm and I was out doing yard work in a short sleeve shirt. I would love it to stay like this but I am leery. I'm not gonna feed my fish or turn on the filter/waterfall yet either.

I'm a couple hours north of Seattle. I'm watching the weather forecast pretty closely, and if I see some cold weather coming, it's no big deal to turn things off again. I'm sticking with light feeding just a couple of times a week for now.

My pond is right against the house and pretty sheltered, so I'm not too worried.

Plus, January is traditionally the coldest month here and we generally don't see any real cold weather after mid-february.

I'm about an hour north of Seattle so we are practically neighbors. We have a campground that we visit at least once or more a year in Blaine and we have ridden our bikes across the border before. I do really hope this lovely weather sticks around and winter is done, done, done as that would be terrific. I thought tho that you weren't supposed to feed the fish till the water stayed at a steady temp of around 50*- 55* or the food could rot in their guts. I guess if you only feed at those temps and stop if it gets colder all should be fine ya think?

I'm down here in Tacoma, and my ponds water temp has been in the low 50*'s F only because I have a heater in my pond. Regardless, everything is starting to look like March already.

Mine was in the low 50's the other day and I don't have a heater. I'm sure it isn't going to stay like that but hey it lifted my spirits for the day and the thought of spring being on the way thrills me to no end

Yup. I figure with the cooler water temps it's going to take a couple days to digest, so I check the forecast before I feed. If it looks like it's going to dip down in temp, I don't feed that day, and wait for another warming trend.

at least the ice has left the pond...as I type this it is snowing again,only a couple inches forecast for tonite so I guess it could be worse. The fellows are still ice-fishing on the lake at the end of the block so spring still feels a long way off here

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, Freddie after viewing your pond pics I think I'll go throw another log on the fire It's going to be down in the 30's here tonight so I have this Mexican Fan Palm that is on a dolly that I must wheel into the garage whenever I hear that it's supposed to get close to freezing............it's a pain but I do love my palm

I think it's gonna dip down tonight but during the day it will be nice again. I'm loving it
