looking for a test kit ,which ones are good ones for starters?

the ones with the liquid vials are better than the strips. They are more accurate.

I use API. Easy to read the colors. I do have a Tetra high PH and it is hard to match the color in the vial to the chart.

API is the best test kit. the local pet store has one its 25 dollars. i might buy it
or find one cheaper

Check eBay or Fostersmithaquatics.com , only about $18 with flate rate shipping. I know that's about the same, but if they have other stuff you need, it is worth it plus no taxes. And as everyone knows, you could always use more stuff.
