Check valve install

Were and how is the best place to put the check valve? Coming out of the pump at water level, above water level or horizontal? I have seen various way and wondered if one was better than the other.

It doesn't matter where but vertical is better.

Also make sure its the flapper type and not the spring type.

Good point, you want gravity to work for you and the flapper type, if installed with the flow up, will allow gravity to assist in closing the valve.

Okay. I will have to find a flapper valve. All I have seen local is spring loaded?

From what I recently experienced - you best place to find a 2 1/2 inch is a plumbing supply store. (Lowes and Home Depot) did not have the flapper type in my area or the spring kind. My local plumbing supply had a huge selection of sizes. Good luck!

I never heard of a 2 1/2" check valve.
I only see 1" - 2 1/2" - 2" and 3"

You might have better luck at 2". These are common.

Are you measuring the out side of the pipe
2"sch 40 pipe is 2" on the inside and 2 1/2" on the outside

Good point, not everyone knows that pipe is measured inside.

Yes it is 2" and I found one at the local plumbing store. Now to install.

Just out of curiosity, what did it cost? I have 2 that were given to me and I have always wondered. Mine are laboratory grade with 2 flappers.
