JB, those are perennials, right? I think I have that on my "want" list from our native plant sale in April. :)

    @brokensword That was hilariously witty!

Is it possible to 'raise' a pond?

Agree with the posts above. I bought my EPDM roof rubber liner from local lumber yard, by the foot. They deliver for free, and their price was wayyyy cheaper than on-line! The weight of an EPDM liner is heavy, so it has freight charges often for a good sized pond. If you buy "pond liner", it...

    Bog building

Build a bog outside your pond. Dig a hole, put in a EPDM liner, then use your skimmer (in the pond) to pull water from the pond, through the skimmer filter, and then have that pump push the water into the bog, through pipes down to the bottom of the bog, and have the bog overflow back into the...

Just got my Tricker's catalog today!

You live in FL and you're talking about plants that did or didn't survive?! I find that hilarious ... sorry, not meaning any disrespect, but I didn't think there was anything that wouldn't survive your winters. LOL I have "tropicals" that I have to worry about, figuring they would survive the...

    What to do about food?

Our weather has been crazy this month, @Dave 54, to say the least! We had 72 one day, down to 32 that night just last few days. Now it seems ... but I haven't checked the weather yet today ... that our weather is going to be unseasonably warm 50's for high and around high 30's or 40 for low...

So, this last part is why I was thinking it broke because it froze. How did the water not freeze in the garage, but after it drained, the plant froze? Or ... do you simply mean the tuber got colder and without water around it, dried out and died? Yes, I definitely want to grow lotus! What you...

Is it possible to 'raise' a pond?

What Sissy mentioned is something to be very concerned about! Be absolutely sure that no water can seep between the liners. You might want to even seal the liners together at the top to keep this from happening. I had a pump line break, just outside the edge of the pond, and pumped most of...

    Any help greatly appreciated

Koi and goldfish will interbreed, too, which is ok, you just get "mutts" instead of koi OR goldfish. LOL It won't cause any problems with adding koi to them, though, as long as you have a large enough pond for the koi. Those goldfish look short and fat or it might be the way the photo was...

    Native Gardening

@JamieB that should work. The seeds were cold stratified in the winter all by themselves. I guess they didn't have the moist cold, like they would on the ground, but I'd put them on the ground and give them a chance. Good luck!

What kind of pond plants are you looking for? Some of the members on here divide lilies and other pond plants every year, so some may have them. However, most of us aren't getting into our ponds anytime soon to divide plants. LOL The water is still pretty cold. I'm in zone 6a south central...

    What to do about food?

I had 72 couple of days ago, and my koi were all at the surface, too. BUT, the difference is that they are still moving slow, not rushing to get to me to be fed. I let the fish tell me when they are ready to be fed. I'm in zone 6a, south central IL, and we went from 72 yesterday to 32 this...

I think the seed company that I love on-line has different time periods (30/60/90 days) for different types of seeds. For most natives that need cold stratification, you can direct sow them in the fall, if you have a bed prepared, or you can winter sow them like I did, and do that in Jan/Feb...

Sissy, tell me the process of growing them from seeds. I have some seeds someone gave me, and I'll try them again, but need to know the particulars to have them succeed after they sprout. I had no trouble sprouting them. However, when I tried to put them outside (maybe it was still too cool?)...

So, you or your daughter raised all of them by seed, and they did better than the one you bought? Is that right? And, do you put them all in the pond so they don't freeze, or didn't you say some of them you leave outside the pond all winter? I have never seen them for sale at any store I've...
