How to extend season of sitting outdoors by the pond?

Actually I meant for over my patio table (I call it my office), so I can sit out and be comfortable even on a misty day. I have netting for the pond and I want it to go through the normal seasons here.

How to extend season of sitting outdoors by the pond?

Here's a strange(?) pond related question to the group of creative masterminds! I spend as much time as possible outside by my pond, often sitting to work at our patio table. It has the usual shade umbrella, but when it rains I can't sit out there without getting splattered. I was trying to...

Help! Water not flowing evenly through PVC pipes

Thank you everyone for all your suggestions! I decided to change the shape of the bog and cover that root so i could have a "normal" filter. I think this will work much better and I won't worry about what is happening under all the pea gravel.

Help! Water not flowing evenly through PVC pipes

Hmmmm... good thinking outside the box. It's not a newly dug area, I just deepened an already dug part of the stream bed. That root has been there over ten years - just not so exposed. I will have to see if I can increase the hole on the opposite side in order to remove that root from the...

Help! Water not flowing evenly through PVC pipes

Hi All, I haven't been posting, but I've sure been reading! I need some help before I pull all my hair out. I just finished this pvc filtration pipe for a new active gravel filter. There is an area leading to the left side is where I had to manipulate it to fit over a root. I did use 90* sweeps...

    UGH!! Waterfall Foam!

Hi All, I have a question about the way the OP put in the waterfall liner. Is the bottom edge of it long enough so that water won't wick back up? How much of an overhang should there be?

    Mystery Stank!

It sure sounds as if something is rotting. Any dead snails caught up in the plants, rotted roots? You need a process of elimination, have you tried putting the plants in an another container temporarily - if that smells, then it's something with the plants. Water only in the container - does...

    Ugh, Tannins!

Algae control is a good silver lining. I don't mind light brown, but right now the color is so dark I can't see below about 8". I know it will clear up eventually with charcoal and water changes. I won't worry too much about it since leaf fall is about to begin and I will put up the netting...

    Ugh, Tannins!

In Portland Or we have had the driest summer in our recorded history. Yesterday we finally had much needed drenching rains - pretty exciting stuff for us! This morning I went out to check the newly "remodeled" pond and it looks like a pot of strongly brewed tea. YUCK! On the bright side it...

    My first Porch Pond

Welcome to the forums, I am new here also. Your porch pond sounds beautiful and I think you are right to be thinking about size and dimensions. Papyrus can get huge, but you can get dwarf varieties that might be better in balance. At the pond store or nursery I will often arrange my plants...

    Re-starting a pond in fall.

You are lucky Sissy! My fish have spawned, but the eggs and babies always get eaten. Maybe next summer I'll remove the eggs and try raise them. Lol, already dreaming of next summer.

    Re-starting a pond in fall.

Thanks SF, I will put a few goldfish in until I know they are doing well. Next summer we will add 2-3 koi. We are in gardening zone 8b. I do already have a in marginal zone with well established plants and a submerged potted pickerel plant that has survived a few years. I had a hunch not to...

    Re-starting a pond in fall.

Hi everyone, I'd appreciate your help. My pond has been out of working order for about 6 weeks after a fish mishap. I've been taking the time to rebuild my waterfall and enlarge the stream area leading to the pond. It will be ready to turn on and enjoy in the next few days, but I am concerned...
