    Frog Issue

I was wondering in someone can help me regarding a green frog. It's my fourth winter with the pond here in Northern Illinois. Each year I use my net to clear out leafs, but read I should be cautious in and around crevices as not to disturb frog's hibernating. unfortunately, the weather warmed...

Short tour of my pond in early spring

The total gallons in the system is about 5,000 and the deepest part is 32". I also like it when the fish swim in the sallow streams. I really like to do the landscaping part of it, but trying to learn as much as I can about the pond eco system and fish care. This forum has helped us...

Short tour of my pond in early spring

Just thought I'd share since so many on this forum have helped me as a newer pond owner. This will be our third summer with the pond and we are just amazed at how much joy and harmony it can bring to your yard. Here's a short video tour of our pond as spring takes hold.

    Friend of Foe

Here's a photo from last night of a raccoon I caught. This is the other end of the pond where it turns into a stream. You can see the fish and the raccoon right behind the light passing fish by and heading for the cat food treat I had waiting to catch him.

Well... I thought I'd follow up. not sure if this is the right pace to post it. But I had another Raccoon who was really brave and going in the river deep to try and get fish. Here's a photo of him last week really deep in the water. My fish like to go to this part of the stream where the...

I have three of the Browning Strike Force Trail Camera's. There are so many different types out there. I'm no expert on them, but this one wasn't the cheapest and not the most expensive and had good reviews.

I'd suggest getting a trail cam. I'm amazed on what stops by the pond especially at night.. I save all photos, but i think it can help to determine you might have a predator. or areas around the pond they might enter. I was amazed last year to see how far a raccoon will go into the water.

No that's interesting.... Last year I found a large toad carcass. Like he was eaten from the inside out. I thought it was a raccoon but thought it strange since I'm assuming a raccoon wouldn't be as neat about it. Also, I know I do have mice around the pond area since I have many large...

I was setting up a few things for pond preparation this week. I have several trail cams setup to keep an eye on things. Outside of a raccoon coming back and few mallards stopping by, I caught this image of what appears to be an owl. First question, is it? second, is should I be concerned? Rob

    Winter Brown Slime?

Hi all, I just thought I should follow up on this issue I was having with the brown slime. As mitch mentioned, it's not growing anymore and is starting to peal off the stones and boulders. I took a wisp broom and brushes the stones and most of it just came right off. Then took my net and...

    Winter Brown Slime?

Thank you, Mitch, Excellent information. I really appreciate it. This will help me for the new season. Although I may still use the ionizer, I may have it turned down from the level it was this year and note the change, if any, this time next year.
