Addy1's ponds

One pond became 10, all filtered with a huge bog

Overview

The year 2010, for our first anniversary, my ear sweet husband bought me a tractor, front end loader, back hoe.

So of course that meant to me, dig a pond, get rid of all of those hard to mow hills. I have had ponds in every house I have owned. From tiny first pond, a mountain stream pond, a large phoenix pond. Now back in maryland, started with one large pond, a 85 foot stream with 4 ponds, now 4 years later have around 10.

Photos will come slowly

Planning and Construction

The plan get rid of grass and hills that where hard to mow. I used to slide into the apple trees when I did mow if there was any dampness to the ground. off the hill ...................smash lol, slide into the fence, got stuck a few times in the fence, so all hard to mow areas gone!

Fish / Plant Stock

We started with feeder fish, they all died, found out our well water was very acidic. The first winter, the pond froze hard enough for a herd of deer to walk on it. Unknown to us we had 4 fish in the pond. They appeared in the spring. One shubunkin, one white one orange, one white and orange.

As the pond was filling frogs moved in.

The white one was the primary spawn-er that summer. Mid summer I added a mix of shubbies and gf, rescued some fish from a foreclosure. By the end of the summer we were seeing fry, a lot of fry.

As of now the pond has around 200 fish, a mix of long fins, subbies, pure white, pure orange, black all beautiful pond mutts.
Other critters, frogs .........tons, tads............tons, dragon fly larvae, snails, an occasional turtle, and who knows what else.

Lots of dragon flies, birds, hawks, owls, red fox, ground hogs, deer, rabbits, falcons come to visit our pond.
All are welcome.
