Overview
I have always been fascinated with fish and aquariums. Just something so relaxing about sitting and watching fish swim. I had a little preformed pond I picked up off craigslist, it was originally set up for my son's turtle. After I was all done I wasn't satisfied with it so I decided to go a little bigger. Well I got on youtube and found a great video series done by pond digger. He does a step by step and will even answer questions if you post them on there. I actually did a mock design of his helix pond skimmer out of a trashcan. Pond is about 9'x9'x3', dug it all with my trusty shovel, pick axe and my little helper. The crystal clear pictures are the first few days it was set up, I had to wait till the following season to add plants. Overall I am happy with how it came out, I have some filtration issues I need to address. I already have thoughts of my next one but that will have to wait till the kids get older.
Planning and Construction
Bog added: As I mentioned I had some filtration oversights so I decided to add a bog above my waterfall. I used my old preformed pond to make my bog. My biggest concern was slowing my waterfall flow down to a trickle.. It took me 2 tries to get my flow correct, I ended up cutting another pipe through to my waterfall box. It took me 25 bags of pea gravel, hand washed (PITA!!). I plan on adding more plants to the bog and a few bags of mulch to straighten up the surrounding landscape and I should be done for now...
