Overview
I am new to ponds! But not new to fishkeeping. I have had many large and small saltwater fish tanks over the past 15 years, growing coral etc. I have always wanted a pond and the right opportunity came in our front yard in our new home. My wife and I have 3 small kids that love to be outside so I'll do anything to keep them loving the outdoors. We have big plans for a very large pond in our backyard but wanted to get our feet wet with this first to learn some tricks of the trade.
Planning and Construction
I purchased a 6x8 Aquascape pond kit. It came with everything I needed other than the rocks/boulders (which I purchased locally). I have watched countless videos of theirs online and felt comfortable doing this on my own. I started digging on August 1st and it was up and running with water by August 7th. The landscaping and fish were added and everything "complete" on August 15th. It was a lot of hard work. I don't have any equipment to move the boulder or rock so it was all by hand. I probably played around with 5-6 different designs (not to mention moving every boulder every which way) but love where it ended up.
The tree behind the waterfall is a Weeping Japanese Maple (Crimson Queen?) and the plan is for it to droop down over the entire falls so you do not see where the water is coming from. That will take some time I am sure but that is how I planned it out.
