We had the big freeze here that a lot in this area had. Didn't think to plug in pond breathers or put in heaters. It took some work but got them running. This was the 1st year in a while that we have had ice on the ponds.
1st issue- hole drilled in bog pipe to stop backflush sprayed water onto netting which froze and then started the water going over the bog wall.
2nd issue- beautiful ice formation for bog outflows goldfish pond. It broke loose and got lodged under the water flow. Water was shooting out of the pond. That was caught on the cameras in less than a minute! When fixing that, found issue with other bog and just shut down the pump.
We did lose a koi that was found frozen in the ice. Not sure what happened, everyone seems fine.

Welcome to the panic freeze fix. I am so happy I turn all off during the winter. I know the other ponds would have had issues.
Sorry you lost your fish.

In 60s here as well. Have been so busy scheduling appointments and dealing with hubby's job that the ponds took a back seat. Have no idea what the new year will bring but blocked the vent hole on bog and removed netting in case we get more cold or snow.

Lol I thought all was good. The tub had survived many freezes, frozen water etc. But this time it tipped the scale to = broken pipe. Never even thought about it.

The cameras have saved us so many times. I'm just hoping we don't get any more of that kind of weather. I can deal with snow but temps that low- nope!
No kidding ! Our pups said you want us go to out in that? Their doggy door was frozen shut.
I bought new jackets for them to put on over their house sweaters.
