Well that's just silly... My fish don't eat when they're frozen!

(I really shouldn't bother reading my email until after I've woken up)

I actually read a post from somebody, somewhere, that actually thought their goldfish would freeze in a block of ice and just thaw out in the winter. I wish i could remember where I read that.

Last spring I was given two large (8 inch) gold fish that had been in a small molded unmaintained back yard fish pond for about two years. The pond was full, but half full of rotting tree leaves and other thick muck. I was told that I could have the fish if I could find them. I managed to find them and take them to my pond where the water is well filtered and crystal clear. They were happy as clams to be with other fish half their size. My point is, if these carp can survive living in uncleaned, unfiltered, and unheated frozen muck, gold fish can handle being frozen or encapsulated ice water through most any winter.
