Hi,

New here, wanted to ask a question. I have an 8 x10 pond with an 8 ft stream we just built yesterday I noticed the water level in the pond dropping so I filled it up again and did a bunch of research. Our waterfalls have some spray and we are in full sun. I noticed based on a location of a stone that we lost about an inch of water since yesterday, albeit it was 30 degrees c yesterday which could have an impact. So I’m trying to determine if it’s a leak I have or if I’m just loosing my mind. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried to upload some photos but I don’t think it’s working

The best way to determine where the leak is at (if there is one) is to turn off the pump and watch the water level. If it continues to drop, see how far down it goes and check for low spots on the edges. If the level holds, the problem is with your plumbing or waterfall. Hope this helps and welcome!

Thank you! How would I determine if the plumbing is leaking, I was super careful when we put it together lol. And is an inch too much for evaporation

A inch might be too much.
Like mrsclem stated turn off your waterfall and pump and let the pond sit still for a day. Filled up to the right level, see if any drop happens.
It is easy to lose water with a water fall, splash, a low spot , a stone that directs the water the wrong way.

Thanks for your help! I think for the most part it’s my waterfall and connection to the liner. I turned off the pump about 10 hours ago and with 30 c weather only lost maybe half a cm if that. Perhaps that’s from evaporation? But we will see in the morning and then update.

This middle section has been wet for a while and it’s puzzling me as to what it is. We’ve had sun and the pond isn’t running I shut it of almost 24 hours ago anyone have any idea? You can also see where the waterfall starts I believe is where the leak is. Good news is there hasn’t been any change in water level overnight! So I don’t think the physical pond has a leak.

@Quartz92 sounds like you are getting it narrowed down to where it's leaking.
Looks like somewhere along the top of those rocks from the waterfall or maybe more than one spot on that one side. Leave the waterfall not running and wait for those wet area's to dry up. You'll just have to look carefully after it's dry and see which area gets wet again and maybe fix spot by spot. Might have to move some rocks to see what's going on when you turn on the falls. Pretty pond and stream!

I did pull up the sides of the stream bed for those areas prior to noticing a leak. At the biofalls (source of my water) seems to be loosing water quickly as well. It’s probably dropped quite a bit in the last 24 hours. I’m waiting until tonight to make a final call

Sounds like it might be the connection into the waterfall box. Or a break in the waterfall box

Update seems like the pond lost half a cm in a about 36 hours. Without any running of the waterfall. Also seems like my biofalls is loosing water quickly as well. So that leads me to two different conclusions. Either the liner attachment to the biofalls is leaking or the piping is leaking any idea as to what to do first? As well the wet spot area I think is a more clay like soil (from the pond digging) as it was super compact so I loosened one section and left the other seems like the looser spot dried quicker and the compacted side is still wet.
