Is there main diet algae?
Short answer ; no. They eat all kinds of plants, love melon and cucumbers, should avoid excessive amounts of the cabbage family, and also shouldn’t eat too much goldfish. Goldfish contain a compound which prevents proper absorption of vitamin B

Well our yellow bellied slider that showed up in May is still hanging around..... although we have had to get him/her out of the pool a couple of times.... for the most part he will climb up the log and sit on the ledge or have a little walk about but always seems to come back to the pond...... never has bothered the koi..... seems content with fish food...... just wondering how he is going to handle hibernation.... I am not going to do anything to help him.... I figure nature will find a way

Good to see you JG :) I imagine it'll find someplace to spend the winter in or around your pond. So cool it's hung out all summer ! Seems like you've had a good season !

They look beautiful !!! I'm totally jealous you don't have any babies. Sadly, it'll soon be the great koi round up around here !

I’m just jealous of any fish bigger than a betta! Next year, maybe I’ll get mine done so I can have fish again. Then I will gladly take in a surplus of shubinkin and maybe two butterfly koi.

Mine actually spawned this spring ( woke up with the thrashing around and witnessed it) about the same time that the toads Were laying their eggs. Had a hard cold snap and all the toad eggs perished, no tadpoles...... so I guess the koi eggs went with them....... the toads came back about a month later and were successful...... little toads hopping everywhere..... but no koi......LoL

Or the eggs were turned into caviar. They’ll eat eggs, even their own unless the eggs have lots of places to get stuck to the fish can’t get to. It helps population control. If you want babies put in a spawning mop. But be prepared for hundreds of babies.
