a part ?

what is this part for I 've have gotten them with 2 of my pumps and cannot understand how they work .air water outlet and it really does not say in the book at all just this pic of the part on the pump if anyone understands this please explain and thank you if you can really confused by this

I bought it from harbor freight and thats all the book says 1268 gph submersible pump with control valve model 47137

It looks like some kind of venturi. A small hose is attached to it and the other end is above the waterline.
A venturi is a device that injects air into your pond water to give pond aeration.
