I'm on the fifth book of my series now, "Octopus". Much has happened, our band of pirates has seized control of the entire new colonies of Mexico. Now, like an octopus they are stretching out their tentacles to right wrongs. If you remember the first book, the princess and Angelica (JW) were shocked to learn how the slaves were treated. They were really shocked when they learned that Batu and Shayla's children had been sold as children also into slavery. Well, here we are now...
“I like it, assemble your men.”
Jeanne Pierre stood up, “This sounds like a good plan, but there is something more urgent that we need to attend to first.”
“We cannot tolerate a Spanish presence in these waters, they must be crushed immediately, what could possibly be more important than that?” Batu asked.
“I am glad that you are the one who asked, as this pertains more to you than anyone.” Jeanne Pierre smiled, “I have been doing some reading on local events.”
“I trust there is not another opera in town.” Batu said sarcastically.
Jeanne Pierre called Shayla to the table, then spread out a document, “Again, as the rest of you were having fun pillaging the viceroy's compound, I was stealing all of his documents. Deeds mainly.”
“And why would the former viceroy's deeds interest us? And how are any of them more important than our mission of eliminating the Spaniards? We own this land now.” Batu pressed on.
“The deeds are for more than just land, every slave bought or sold was recorded, the amount paid and their destination.” he smiled at Shayla.
Shayla's eyes went wide and she gasped, “Our children? You have found our children that were sold?”
“Yes, at least who they were sold to and where they were taken. There is a very good chance that they are still there.”
Batu sprang to his feet, “Where are they?”
Jeanne Pierre read the document, “Both children, a boy and a girl were sold to a British farmer to work his plantation on the great continent to the north. His name was Benjamin Kent and his plantation lies in the area known as Georgia. I say we leave immediately.” Jeanne Pierre smiled.
“I agree.” Shayla said, rising to her feet.
“You cannot go, this could be dangerous.” Batu said forcefully.
Shayla lowered her eyelids and looked at him, “Do you really want to see something dangerous? Just try to stop me.”
