Above ground pond?

I am thinking about an above-ground pond on my new slate patio. I am going to have a stonemason build the patio and he could build the pond too. I have a couple of questions:
1) Should I use a pre-molded type liner? If so, which one?
2) If I went with the flexible type liner, I am not sure how I would attach it to the wall/top of the pond?

any thoughts here would be great!!

Thanks a bunch!

You attach the liner to the inner frame, then there's the outer, attractive siding.

This is my pond I built into my front yard deck. I built the frame around the pond allowing it to go into the ground so its 3 feet deep. I then placed foam sheets all the way around to prevent any splinters damaging the liner and to help in our NorthWest winters. Pond is about 500 gallons and I went with the liner over the top stapling it down then placing the top boards down to make a nice lock. I designed this pond to be used as a coffee table so it only comes up out of the deck I think 18 inchs. This year I plan to replace the top cover boards and install a bog filter onto it. Due to the small size its easy to make a cover with glass to place over pond in winter that. That has kept my koi from going into hibernation and continue growing.

And before anyone asks yes I do find full beer bottles at the bottom of the pond that have been knocked over.
