Even large foam pieces that are packed around stuff you buy can be used as an island. A pool noodle with window screening attached with floating plants in it .Jw came up with that idea years ago

next question: aeration
how do I know I have enough?
right now just have a temporary waterfall from the output of the filter on a fiberglass waterfall kit and a fountain on the opposite side

any need to treat the water to remove the chloramines?

Yes, but first verify which disinfectant your water supplier is using. Give them a call and they will tell you.
If chloramine is used for treating your water, you must use a treatment that specifically states that it will neutralize chloramine. Typical chlorine neutralizers will not work.

just called and they do use chloramines, report is below
yikes, gotta run home and treat sooner than later
will my fish be harmed having been in there for a few days? any thing I can do to reverse damage?
also presume it's preventing the growth of bacteria

.
Healthy ponds will grow a thin layer of bacteria and algae on everything. This backgrouind will make your dark fish more visible than you would imagine.

Chloramine disassociates in water into Chlorine and Ammonia. While the Chlorine will fairly quickly dissipate in a sunlit pond, the Ammonia does not. Depending on the percentage of total pond volume added, this could be a minor or major problem. Ammonia will burn the gill membranes of fish. They may or may not recover based on severity and extent of the burns. Typically they will recover as the Total Ammonia level needs to exceed 1.0 before there are major issues.
That being said, always treat the water if a water change is done, just to be on the safe side.
Bacterial growth is not usually retarded.

my pearlscale may have a problem
it appears to be very dormant compared to the others, which are swimming and exploring their new home

it likes to float along the top, upright that is as opposed to sideways are upside down. Rarely moves but when it does seems normal. Is my fish sick or just lazy?

feeding them for the first time today, the ammonia levels were concerning me and didn't want to add to the issue

no, the fish seem to get along with her/him just fine. Actually the Shubby is the only one who seems to get a little bullying from the others.

it's also a hot day here, mid 90s
maybe just sun tanning or heat exhaustion?

Do you know the temperature of your water as water gets hotter it lacks oxygen .Zeolite does help a lot with ammonia .I use it just in case

I have a jar of zeolite on call if needed.
the ammonia test now is still around 0.2, yellow with no sign of green yet.

just fed them and all are having a buffet except my fat little friend. Should I take her back to the garage tank? I'm afraid she won't survive the night and we're getting a storm tomorrow

If you transferred the fish from your garage tank directly to the outside pond, there may have been some temperature or PH differences that the fish are still adapting to. The larger the difference, the more of a shock it is to the fish.
Some fish adapt slower than others. If the fish is still lethargic after 1 week, there could be a problem.

I'll sit tight, it was about a 10 degrees difference

That's a pretty large difference. I try to keep maximum temperature differences below 5 degrees.
The fish is under a lot of stress right now, so check daily for any signs of disease.
Ich is a common parasite for fish under stress. Ice can be identified by white spots appearing on the body of the fish.
