Just got done digging new pond next to the old natural pond. I did put a dam between them. I’m using the water from the natural pond to fill the new pond. I’m just wondering how long until I can put my koi from my natural pond to the new pond? The new pond is about 50’000 gallons. Thanks in advance everyone.

if you are using water from the old pond to the new pond and you are moving koi from the old to the new pond ,not sure you would need to wait .Only reason to wait is if you stir up a lot of sediment in the new pond if it is a dirt pond also .Do you ever test the water in the old pond ,just wondering since it is so large

We just move here last summer. From what I was told, the pond has been here over 9 year before the house was built. When I dugout for the new pond it was mix with gray clays and dirt.

I don't think you would have to wait but if there is a lot of clouded up water from the clay and dirt then maybe wait till it settles. Is this a lined pond or another clay natural pond?

Clay natural pond. Would it still be ok for me to transfer my koi into the new pond when the water are cloudy? I just don’t wanted the heron be eating up my koi.

Big koi breeders raise very expensive koi in dirt ponds with brown water. I would think you should be fine.

When you put your koi into your new pond how will that protect the heron? Heron will stand in the shallow water and wait patiently forever standing perfectly still waiting to grab your fish. The water should be fine the way it is as long as it's not too terribly murky.

I’m putting a net over the new pond. The other pond was too big and there’s other fishes in it, my son can’t go fishing in it if I put a net on it. That why I had to dig another pond next to the other one so I can put my koi in it with netting over it. Now that the water are full and it doesn’t seem to be murky.
