I am building a new pond 10m by 4.5m average depth .6m (i make it about 22000+ litres) and I need advice on pumps and filter. I was going to use an external pump and create a planted area at one end with an under gravel filter (like a naturally swimming pond). But the more I read the more I think I need external filtering. Has anyone got advice on the size of pump needed to create a clean pond with a small waterfall and some fish?

That would depend on what you have easy access too .But you always need external filter with fish .

Usually you want to have a pump the size that will turn over the water in the pond from once every 2 hours to once every 1 hour. With koi you need it to turn the water over more than with goldfish.

so if you have a 1000 liter pond you would want at least a 500 lph or a 1000 lph pump or anything inbetween.
