I don't use my good aerator once temps drop below freezing. Too much chance of air tubing freezing. I have a couple of $15 ones that I use. Single line down thru the center of 100W heater.

I had an Airmax once and was extremely disappointed in it.....also those little blue ball airstones constantly became unglued and fell off :(

I love my Pondmaster L20 for winter and cool temps and my Matala / Hakko L 40, for summer.

The diaphragm will eventually degrade and break. The only pumps that avoid diaphragm replacement are piston driven and are expensive. You might look into pumps that are designed for diaphragm replacement like Alita. I bought two. The diaphragm lasts about five years depending on how hot it gets.

If you mount your pump below the waterline and lose power, water will flow back through the line to the pump and possibly flood it.
