My pond is about 160 gallons and consist of two pieces (an upper flowing into a lower with a pump to recirculate the water). It was in an area in our backyard that received direct sunlight all day and I had a constant problem with algea and fish dying. So I relocated it about a month ago to a different area where it is shaded for at least half a day thinking it may help reduce the algea but within a couple of weeks, the water was green and murky again and you can't see in it at all. It currently has no fish in it until a get this under control. Will a UV filter cure this and if so, any recommendations as to which ones work best? Should I run a larger filter in addition to the small filter that's on the pump? (Pump is a pro flo, not sure of the model though, it's a small one from Lowes).

A UV is not needed for clear water. :goldfish: I don't use one and my water is clear. A good bio filter, circulation and a balance of plants and general maintenance is all that is needed. Shade, of course, helps.
My ponds were in almost 100% sunlight, I have planted trees, papyrus and bambo to reduce it somewhat. I just built a 2nd Japanese bridge over my lower pond, this also helped to shade a little more of the pond and give the Koi an additional hiding place.
