Well its that time of the year again our clubs Grow and show compition koi picking day which omes around again this bank holiday weekend over here in the UK .
There are 24 non go-sanke koi to choose from this year and we are looking forwards to see which koi we will be able to pick.
All the members who have paid upfront for these koi have their names put into a hat and then your name is picked out , you then have 5 minutes to pick three koi and another 5 minutes to whittle these three down to the one koi which is then yours.
Our first ever we were picked out second getting a simply beautiful Ochiba which went on to wi that years grow and show photographic competion
We plumbed for a gin rin showa the next year which sadly jumped into the net got caught and died in the sun which we are gutted by as it was a show stopper and then went for another the year after which is slowly maturing into a really nice koi now:cool:
but on that occaision we were picked out second to last :(
Fingers crossed for this year that we may be placed higher in the draw , weve seen pictures of these new koi and have already got an idea of what we want :)

As you can see by these beautiful koi its well worth it plus the club ca buy koi at fantastically reduced prices by bulk buying from the Dealership we use basically your getting a koi worth £150 for £45 which is a great saving but then as I said its when your name comes out of the hat that dictates the fish your going to get last year one of our members was so lucky to be picked out of the hat first and took home a stunning Tancho matsuba everyone wanted it but he was the lucky one the same with our very first fish from the Gro and show that stunning Ochiba.
Not retacting in any way from those two lovely gin rin showa's the surviving one which is only now showing its full potential as it matures.(y)
If you ever form a koi club in the Caymen islands Priscilla it may be an idea you could use as well.:D

So very true addy , however I dont know where the idea first originated from but it took some years before our own club adopted it nd once you get the fish its down to the skills of the fish keeper to grow it on before the November deadline and photographic show which is taken as seriously as any other show with the dtffering sizes Best in in show etc, the grow and show has been attached to this show and the whole ckub vote on the outcome of it
It makes for a fun evening on a dark November night with trophies given out to the lucky winners......:)
