Has anyone had success with protection that does not involve netting the whole pond, like crisscrossed fishing line, or a floating grid? How close together do strings need to be to dissuade a Kingfisher from going through?
Please share ideas, mortality has been high. A tree overhanging the pond makes full netting problematic, also I'm concerned with bats, other birds that bathe in the water, deer etc getting tangled in it (I have lots of all of the above).
There are rock hiding places in the pond but apparently not enough (has anyone found a hiding solution that is enough to protect from Kingfishers?). Plant water cover had been slow to take off and will all die back in winter anyway.
