Was outside at dusk getting ready to come in, and heard a faint and strange call from a Blanchard's Cricket frog. Then another and finally a third one. They were triangulated in older trees and spread hundred feet apart best I can tell. Was very surprised walking the yard (have about a 1/2 acre) to locate the call origins, as not only are they NOT supposed to be this far east in Ohio they are in a decline overall.

Do they typically call outside of mating season? Mating season is over for them, right?

Still hearing them. Definitely in the trees, and only a few that I can detect. Sounds like 2 marbles clacking together, that increase in speed then stop.

Are they typically in trees and call this late? Even the green frogs quit calling already. Glad they are off the ground currently as lawnmowers have to be a prime predator. Few weeks back, stopped 5 different times while mowing, to catch then move 5 different wood frogs. Most probably don't notice or care.
