Broke ground yesterday on our pond build.

I'm looking for any and all ideas. So comments and suggestions are very welcomed.

Not at the house currently so I can't post the dimensions of our pond as of today, but I will.

From what I dug the dimensions are roughly 8 x 14 x 3. I'm planning on approx. 3000 gallons. I'm thinking of building up cinder block walls like koikeepr did for his pond build, that way I will be able to keep yard junk out of it. Once I get more shovel work done I will have a defiant number to give no just an estimate.

My wife's new garden pond with our Koi. We had to get them out of the stock tank we have been keeping them in. So here is their new home.

Why is your input line so high? That is going increase the head and decrease the flow.

I really don't know why i did that, just never cut it down, didn't think much about it, it has been working well so far, sorry - i will address this ASAP. Thanks for the advise.

How far down would you recommend cutting it? I'm thinking it should be above the rim of the bucket?

What is the status of the rectangular pond? It sounds great.

Thanks,

The rectangular pond is empty of the rain water, got some more digging to do, secondary to the walls falling into the pond after all the rain. I think the wife has me working on it this week, that and fixing all the grass I messed up with the track hoe!

I will be keeping this thread upto date, with picture and more.

Fantastic, yeah I got in trouble for hurting the grass in my month long project.....but it grows back. I look forward to seeing your progress.

You incoming pipe has to be really low on the bucket. Like about 6" from the bottom. Crap water is heavy so the detrius will sink. The clear water will rise, so your outgoing pipe should be at the upper part of the bucket.

If you have your incoming pipe high the way you do now, the water in the upper region will always be dirty and you'll never capture clear water to go back in the pond. Go to the DIY section of our forum and you can see a number of filters. Just think of it smaller for your situation.
