Are earwigs a problem?

When I go to the pond, I see dozens of earwigs in there every time. Swimming around on the surface, as if they don't really want to be there.

Can they cause a problem or are they nothing to worry about? They've already demolished my clematis which is about 10 feet away from the pond.

Is this what you are seeing? I was just reading, and they do like moisture, but I didn't see anything to indicate they would actively go into a pond -- just hang out in very moist areas, like in proximity to the pond.

That is exactly what I mean. Nice aren't they?

I was surprised to see them in there. They always seem to be swimming frantically, like they've fallen in when I've moved a leaf or something, but there are so many I have to presume that they've chosen to go in and are quite happy.

Earwigs are the Worlds grossest bugs, in my opinion.

If you want a lot of earwigs, then just use pink bark chips as mulch.

Or leave you homebrewing gear outside. Years ago I only had a carport and had my brew kettles, pumps, tubing outside under a tarp. Every brew day would include all the time to extract those things from all the little hiding spots before being the cleaning process.

Obnoxious bugs, what I hate is when I put on my hearing protectors before mowing and one of the buggers clamps on my ear.
