Barrel fittings

I was wondering if the cap on the barrel would fit a threaded fitting. I know they 2 have different threads but it looks like one might work. Looking building a 15 gallon drum for a skimmer.

I have a three barrel (55g) rain water setup where the barrels are set upside down. The outlets are threaded into one of the built in lid threaded ports... don't know which one, but I remember it was an off the shelf PVC fitting.
