Speaking of things that fly around and like necter I found a small abandoned solitary wasp nest in one of the polystrene boxes we use to transport our koi to the show over the weekend .(y)
It is a delicate thing of geometric beauty :D :)

We are not seeing any bees in our area yet. I don't think it's warm enough yet.

ours only start to fly when it is over 50, they do a little flying, over 60 they are a lot more active, rain, heavy winds etc they don't fly. But get that sun out, warm low winds, they are out of the hive in droves.

23 years ago when I first started a garden and pond, I had lots of bees. There was so many bees that they really did have a "bee line" to the pond, and if you stood in there way, they would bouce off you cause they just flew non stop all day long. The made a nest under the pond, under the steps, and up under the roof of my house. I never bothered them and they never bothered me. We were happy, the side of the house smelled like honey and all in the world was good....
Then came the evil Monsanto, and their evil was spread with the wind, the birds, and sadly the tiny bees too carried their evil pollen and so the evil was spread....

Now all I ever get at the pond is wasps, in every shape, size and color. The Wasps are filling the void left behind in a world fast becoming strangely absent of bees .

So addy, Just how far are these bees from your house?

From the house, about 36 feet. We can watch them from the deck. They are right next to the veggie garden. When I am doing the veg plants I will be just feet from the hive, to the side of them
